On the morning of October 15, 2018, Houston Police Department Mounted Patrol rode into a church parking lot on Heights Boulevard so a rabbit in a Sherpa carrier could get blessed.

Nobody sent a press release. Nobody called the media. HPD Mounted Patrol just showed up — the way they do in a neighborhood that still knows its officers by name — and Sgt. Curl stood quietly in the October sun while a crowd of Heights residents brought their dogs, their cats, their goose in a stroller, and their faith.
